چکیده

Commercially-pure zirconium is alloyed and dealloyed repeatedly with hydrogen at 810 C, thereby cyclically triggering phase transformations between hydrogen-free a-Zr and hydrogen-alloyed b-Zr. Under an externally applied tensile stress, the internal mismatch stresses produced by the a-b transformations are biased, resulting in the accumulation of strain increments after each chemical cycle in the direction of the applied stress. Two key parameters, i.e., half-cycle time and applied stress, are examined to determine their effects on the strain increments. A tensile strain of 133% is achieved without fracture after multiple chemical cycles, demonstrating for the first time transformation superplasticity in zirconium induced by isothermal hydrogen cycling. a 2010 Professor T. Transformation superplasticity of water ice and ice containing SiO2 particulates

[1] Transformation superplasticity is a deformation mechanism that occurs during the phase transformation of an externally stressed material. Pressure-induced transformation superplasticity, which has long been postulated to occur in olivine in the Earth’s interior, is shown to take place in water ice. Pure ice specimens were subjected to hydrostatic pressure cycling between 0 and 300 MPa to re...

Comparison of doped combination zirconium-tungsten, zirconium- molybdenum and molybdenum-tungsten on single-wall vanadium oxide nanotube in hydrogen gas adsorption

In this study, doped vanadium oxide nanotubes were evaluated using different software to study the absorption of hydrogen gas. Vanadium oxide nanotubes are one of the options for absorption and storage hydrogen gas. In this research study for the first time, the Monte Carlo simulation was used to investigate the hydrogen gas absorption behavior in molybdenum-tungsten, molybdenum-zirconium and z...

Whisker alignment of Ti±6Al±4V/TiB composites during deformation by transformation superplasticity

We examine the e€ect of 10 vol.% TiB whisker reinforcement on transformation superplasticity of Ti±6Al±4V, induced by thermal cycling about the a/b phase transformation range of the matrix under a uniaxial tensile stress. During superplastic deformation, the whiskers gradually align along the external loading axis, as measured by electron back-scattering diffraction of deformed specimens. The c...

In situ hydrogen loading on zirconium powder

For the first time, various hydride phases in a zirconium-hydrogen system have been prepared in a high-energy synchrotron X-ray radiation beamline and their transformation behaviour has been studied in situ. First, the formation and dissolution of hydrides in commercially pure zirconium powder were monitored in real time during hydrogenation and dehydrogenation, then whole pattern crystal struc...
